3 week old puppy

I have a 3 wk old puppy no mother I am bottle feeding. It is have a hard time having a bowel movement. He is on Esbilac, i ran out for a few days and mixed water and carnation canned milk he is now back on esbilac. what can i do?

Try stroking his back. New borns can't eliminate on their own. They are completely dependent on their mother licking them to stimulate elimination. I would think that by 3 weeks they could in their own, but maybe not in this case.

take a warm damp, not soaked, cloth and wipe around it's genitals and anus, to simulate the mother licking it, I have to do this with rescue squirrels , it's probably the carnation that constipated the young pup, you could try putting the pup on a full 24 hours of pedialyte, then re-introducing the esbilac

Hey. Carnation doesn't have enough nutrients for the pup. Use some goats milk and puppy formula mixed and warmed. Take a warm cloth and wipe the anus like a mother would do to stimulate a bowel movement after feeding the puppy.

I know the milk replacement formula from pet stores is good for puppies and for most of us would easier to find than goats; milk. I see no point in digging up old threads.
