Hello I am new here.. My 1yr old pup, Gracie, is a house dog, she is 1/2 Pomeranian & 1/2 Min. Doberman. For the last few days she has been vomiting in the morning, that is the only time she does. We are very careful what she eats & as we live in town, she stays indoor..even to void. She is very smart in that she uses the newspaper. She cries when one of us leaves, U can see the tears. Gracie has been a blessing & now that she is sick we are worried, can anyone help.

Dogs dont have tear ducts, ruth. I know you would like to think so, but they dont. Your little dog is barely out of adolescence, so I would suggest you get her to a vet and have him assess her, just to ease your mind.

You say your little one voids on newspaper, you know it is a dog's natural tendency, no matter how small to be outside for many functions, voiding and exercise. I hope you give her some short walks once in a while.

Sorry but dogs DO have tear ducts. Dogs don't cry as such but they do have tear ducts. I know - my dog had surgery for a clogged tear duct.

"In normal animals, tears are constantly produced and drain out through small ducts in the eyelids. The ducts empty into the nose. (That is why your nose runs when you cry.) In animals with blocked ducts, the tears overflow the lids and run down the face."

Thanks for pointing that out, and apologies to the OP. I have read further and found that some breeds dont have the proper mechanism to drain the tears out of the tear duct, i.e. poodles, cockers and small terriers, which eliminates the OP's little dog.

I was actually confusing this with sweat glands.

First port of call would be your vet. Vomiting is never good and even though she is housebound it is possible you may have carried something into your house to make her sick.
My mothers dog has kennel cough at the moment even though he hasn't left the property in 4 years.

The 'crying' is what Judy said, all to do with the tear ducts...

Miniature Pinschers (which is what mini dobermans are) aren't as prone to weeping eyes but Pomeranian are shocking for it.
Depending on the color of your dog it will most likely have a red tinge around the eyes caused by the "tears" staining the hair.
You can get stain removal products for dogs but other than that there isn't much you can do... just check her eyes regularly to make sure they are not clogged or infected.
