My 11 year old beagle/rottweiler mix female spayed inside dog just started acting crazy a couple days ago. She hasn't eaten anything unusual, gotten into anything or gone anywhere she doesn't go every other day (fenced in yard). Monday, she started just whining for no reason, running around the house, couldn't find a good spot to lie down and would run through the house to find another spot. She has been trying to lie in spots she hasn't ever tried to lay in for 11 years and just being very whiny. She has also been itching a little but this is normal for her as she has always done this due to seasonal allergies. My 2 year old daughter accidentally gave her 1/2 of a mini chocolate donut on Sunday. My dog has had chocolate before, again compliments of my daughter and nothing has ever happened. But thought I would include this just to be safe. I give my dog allergy medicine for her allergies every once in a while and because of her itching, I gave her one last night and after about 10 minutes, she was sleeping peacefully and wasn't whining or anything. Just normal. She is only like that now if I give her the allergy medicine. If not, she runs, literrally runs around the house trying to find a spot to lay down, whining and panting. I can't afford a vet bill if I can avoid it. Someone please help. What is going on with her??

She is probably still suffering from her allergies or some other problem. You need to take her to see a vet, they'll probably work out a payment plan with you and it's your responsibility and obligation to her. :(

Teach your daughter not tog give her chocolate, or keep the chocolate away from the daughter, or better yet, watch her when she has chocolate. If you can't have the dog and daughter around each other, it's dangerous.

It is possible there may have been something else in the donut that set off her allergies. While chocolate has killed many dogs, it takes a big dose. I would really like to see the dog go to the vet, but you could hold off and see how she is the first of the week.

In general, the less human food a dog gets, the better. A handful or grapes or raisins can kill a dog. Other stuff slowly destroys the pancreas or liver. Children and dogs need supervision. Have you checked her for fleas. If she is getting bitten, she may run from one spot to another trying to find a spot that will not cause her pain.
My dog did this and she had fleas... I checked for flea dirt but did not find any.. so I used a fine tooth flea comb and combed her from head to toe every time she started the running.
It turns out it was fleas, sometimes I could only find a couple on her body. I treated the animals and the house. My problem was solved.

Thanks for the report. Sometimes it is a tough call whether to run to the vet or not. I have done very well with my dogs, but likely that includes a lot of luck.

I might add that we are all obligated to give our dogs the care they need. I sign a contract to do so, before I am allowed to have my puppies. The contract does not limit the remedies if I fail to do so.
