Spouse Verbally Promises To Pay.

We are getting divorce and we have agreed to all the terms except this:

My spouse verbally agrees to pay me $500.00 a month (this is not child support nor alimony money) for ten years. I want to make sure that she will not change her mind. How do I do that?

You need to have it put into writing otherwise it will be hard to take her to court to keep paying once she decides to stop paying this amount. You need to get a good family attorney involved in your situation so no one is the loser here.

Moose1123 agrees: agree an attorney or para legal should be involved to write up legal binding papers.

Just ask your attorney, to include this in the terms of the divorce.

Problem solved.

Why is she paying you $500 a month. It is not child support or alimony? Then what is it? If she is giving you money to help you live day to day it is alimony. If she is paying you for her portion of a car or other property or credit card bills. That is a different thing too. If it is only verbal for 10 years.. She may decide to stop paying you. You should get it in writing

Yes, is it to pay something specific, but all of the terms of the seperation and divorce should be included in the divorce agreement.
