    There is no time limit. The sooner you request the better-off you are. If you know now, take action.

    Depending on location, there are time limits as to how long after, if you wait over so long you can't.

    Also in some areas you will need a divorce if there are property settlement issues or child support

    *** assuming you mean one from the state not a religious one
