How long after you file for divorce can you get married
My sister's married to a guy and they're about to divorce, she's seeing someone else. IN the state of GA, when you file for divorce can you get married before the divorce is finalized.

I would think that no state in the U.S. would allow you to get married until after your divorce was finalized... not even in the South!

You can't get married until your divorce is finalized so you might want to hold out on it for a little bit

That has to be about the dumbest thing in the world! Your sister needs to be alone for at least one year to get her priorities straight after the divorce before she even considers marrying or even dating again. What do you want to bet she will be back in divorce court within three years again?

How quickly you are willing to judge someone, when you do not know their true situation. I asked for advice, instead of giving it, you had to waste your time mouthing off about someone you do not know the first thing about.

Your sister should wait until her divorce is finalized. Also she should also be in a long-term relationship with the guy she is dating in order for her to see if he is the one.

She has, she was her first ever boyfriend before she met her husband. They dated for 5 years before she married someone else. I've known him for that long and he's a nice guy.

Legally you cannot marry another person unless your divorce is finalized otherwise you could be charged as a bigamist.

As soon as the divorce is final and you have a copy of the finalization paperwork in your hands you can legally get married. My father was divorced less than one day from my mother and he got married again. He had the finalization paperwork in his hands at the time as well. He's still married to her some 50 years later.

Just because she dated this guy first and then for what ever reason married someone else does not make it OK for her to jump into another relationship so soon after a divorce. That is unless she wants another divorce in her future. Statistics prove that once divorced you are far more likely to get a second divorce when something does not work out to your satisfaction. I stand by my suggestion that she remain celebrate for at least one year to help her get her head on straight before she considers dating again.
If you choose to ignore my suggestion that is fine with me. This forum is here to answer questions for people who ask, and I did exactly that, I answered your question with my suggestion! So if it is not what YOU want to hear, then simply ignore it.

If they would get "married" before the divorce is final, it would not be legal and they would not really be married.

In Georgia you can get married 10 minutes after it is final,

If it is a non contested divorce in GA, it is final when the judge signs the paper, at least one party has to be present , both should be. In GA in a contested divorce, it is final 30 days after the judge signs it.
