am i too expectant

i have been with my partner for 6 plus years we have 2 very small children and today it feels like we are 2 different people who want different things and recently fell out, i just need to know where i stand or i get moody and upset and dont like the unknown or unexpected, i like to plan and know what i'm doing. he likes to take things as they come easy come easy go, no worries only where it concerns him, he to me is selfish yet he does a lot to help with the kids and the house work.. do i expect too much? We get on usually but a lot of issues have not been dealt with properly and left me feeling quite resentful so sometimes he says he cant win with me. does it sound like we have grown apart and we should split for good now so at least we may stay friends?
