popping knuckles can cause arthritis?

is it true that when you are young if you crack/pop your knuckles you can get arthritis when you are older? Because a guy in my class says so, and me and even my teacher kept teasing him about it, popping/cracking out knuckles right in his ear ? ANYWAY we are doing sort of a competition of if its true or not. THEN while I was at vollyball practice I asked my super-duper smart friend and she said "yes, It wears out your finger fibers." WELL, IS IT TRUE OR NOT?

I have arthritis and my doctor actually says I should do it because it can help relieve pressure (a good thing).

--and I didn't get arthritis from cracking my knuckles. lol
