Thanks

It depends upon what operating system that you are using. If you are using a Windows based operating system, go to the "System" icon (right click on it, and OPEN it) in the control panel or the "My Computer" icon (right click on it, and got to PROPERTIES) on the desktop.

When you open it, you will see a "Network Identification" tab (In Windows XP it is called "Computer Name") - you can change how you are identified from there.

Thanks.

What I looking for is to change or hide hardware identification for my PC so that no one may know which particular machine (compaq Presario, Windows ME) I am woking from.

Perhaps it is the following:

52782-OEM-0009147-00560

found in "hardware profile".

First, why do you need to do this. Second, no that address is not published.

When you connect to a web server it can gather your IP, your OS and your browser type, that's it.

Bit I think there is an internet (TCP/IP) command (SNMP) which can ask all kinds of questions automatically re my machine.

Not an internet command and it doesn't quite work that way. But that's also why you have firewalls.
