Hard drive is corrupted or has so many bad sectors it doesn't know whether its Arthur or Martha. OR is could be the motherboard, check the connections and reinstall windows or better yet run a repair. Try attaching this hard drive to another computer as a slave and see if it picks up. Use diag tools to test for bad sectors, these can normally be repaired. Otherwise if there is a virus you will have to reinstall completely.
