Blink cursor

At boot up i get a blinking cursor on the top left on the monitor, i try to press f8 but can't get in to it, i can get into setup. can someone help?

Is that ALL you get, the blinking cursor and it just hangs?

What version of Windows is on the PC?

yes thats it, a blinking cursor, can't get into f8, I have WINXP PRO.

insert your XP CD and reboot. Then choose the Repair option.

it could not read the hardrive bad files could not repair, so I had to format it, thanks for your help!!!!
