I don't know why my dentist did 4 crowns 3 weeks ago. It has been hurting very bad and now I need two root canals on two of the teeth.

Get a new dentist.

I had an AWFUL dentist when I was young, she would always be making my parents pay for fillings and crowns and all sorts of procedures. She would always be telling me that my teeth are in bad shape.
We changed dentist and since then we have had to have much less done! My teeth are healthy as anything and my parents get problems seen to professionally and they have much less done.

I'm so glad we changed dentist before she told me I had to have something serious done!

Are you sure the teeth need root canals? Did the dentist check the bite after the crowns were inserted? Sometimes it takes a couple of visits to get the bite right. Did your dentist take xrays? Is there infection at the root tips? Was there pain before the crowns were done? I'd go for a second opinion to another dentist to be sure the root canals are necessary.

Thanks for your answer. It seems that althought the pain is still very present, the intervals of time in which I don's feel pain are getting longer. This may be good. Both you and Capuchin are advising me to go see another dentist. I may just do that and tolerate the pain for another few weeks, the time to figure things out. Perhaps the nerve just needs more time to adapt. The dentist did do Xrays and I don't think he saw any infection. I think that when I told him that the pain was waking me up at night he started to worry, but now it has been two days in a row that I don't wake up. I can finally rest a little bit. I guess that finally some rest will be beneficial to the healing.

You are right. I have always gone to this dentist ever since my first tooth appeared so I tend to trust him a lot. Just because his cabinet is really professional looking, it does not mean he is the best. I think I will seek a second opinion before I invest this kind of money in one or two root canals. I'd still go get your bite checked again. There should be no charge for this if the crowns have just recently been done. Are you grinding your teeth at night to make your teeth sore during the day?
