Numbness after tooth removal

Asked Jun 11, 2008, 01:50 PM — 5 Answers
I had an extraction done this morning at 10:30 how long is it going to take for the numbness to subside, it's now 5:00 pm, is it normal for it to last this long?
Thanks

I always wondered why they couldn't come up with an "after" shot of something that would eliminate that "numbness" after dental work.

For me, that feeling, and the length of time it lasts, is worse than the pain once it has worn off.

The longest mine ever lasted was about 7 hours.

It really depends on how much, and how well the dentist placed the shot. Also, if you discovered, during the procedure, that you weren't quite numb enough, and he had to inject more, that will lengthen the time a great deal.

I learned, that even if I could feel a little pain, not to ask for more novacaine. I just did my best to tolerate the pain instead of having half of my face dead for the entire day.

It will wear off, but if you are like me, never soon enough.

Thanks for the help, I actually was put to sleep so I'm not sure how much they gave me, I can feel the pain but my chin and lower lip are still so numb. Hopefully it won't be much longer.

Yeah, you really got to watch it when you take a drink of something, unless you actually enjoy having it run down your chin!

In the last 2 days I have this dull pain in my tooth (really high up, in the gums). It only hurts when I walk or bend down. It is not painful when I drink or eat. Wisdom Tooth Removal [ 4 Answers ]

Good Evening, My husband had four wisdom teeth removed last Wednesday, April 4th. One of his teeth, lower left, was growing in sideways and the oral surgeon had to remove a small piece of bone and possibly remove the tooth in pieces. On Monday, his disolvable stitches came out of the bottom of...

Hanging skin after wisdom tooth removal [ 3 Answers ]

I had my upper two wisdom teeth removed 5 days ago. Today I noticed that there is a round piece of skin hanging down from where my wisdom tooth used to be. This is strange, because the stitches from my incision are no where near where this loose skin is hanging from. It hurts, and is annoying...

Pain after wisdom tooth removal [ 2 Answers ]

OK - I had a Wisdom Tooth pulled - it was not impacted. It was full of decay under the last filling. I ended up with a "dry socket" in that tooth. Went back to my Oral Surgeon who put a "pac" in it - felt so much better. Had pac taken out - the hole is much better but the bridge in front of it...
