About 3 days ago I noticed a small bump between my cheek and gum (at the base), just enough to be annoying but it didn't hurt. Now days later it's swollen and red and soft, fleshy. I swabbed it often with hydrogen peroxide, and now am using Listerine because of the alcohol content. The spot is small and has a small white line on it, like a coating, but in my head it feels large. It's very tender. It doesn't seem like a cyst though, and it's at the base of my gum where a tooth used to be but was pulled. This tooth had a root canal but got absessed years ago so my dentist pulled the tooth. It has never bothered me since.

Any ideas?

Your best bet is to get a professional to take a look at it. I suggest going to an oral surgeon. The reason is this. I had a similar lump at the base of my first bicuspid. The dentist lanced it and placed me on antibiotics. The lump deflated a little and then came back. The diagnosis was an abscess which meant that the tooth needed to be root cannaled. I went to get a tooth canal and the fellow ruined the tooth by drilling sideways because according to him he couldn't see. Now after my tooth was ruined and needed pulling they sent me to an oral surgeon to have the lump biopsied. It turned out to be simply an irritated salivary gland. Perfectly good tooth lost because of Dentist misdiagnosis followed by dentist malpractice. So that's why I suggest going to an oral surgeon or requesting a referral to one if a referral is needed. A biopsy can save you a world of trouble.
