About three weeks ago I had several fillings done. I think there were 3 on on the top right molars and 1 on the bottom on the same side. It was alright at first but now it hurts to bite on nearly everything and it seems sensitive to hot and cold when a liquid has time to get around (and in?) the tooth. Flossing does hurt a lot. I would have just gone back to the denitst but I moved to a fairly remote location for the summer. The nearest dentist is 3 hours away. I just want to make sure I have an idea of what might be going on so that I don't go all that way for a fix that may not do anything. (I will have never seen this dentist before so I'm not sure what he/she is like...). Any help you can offer would be greatly appreciated!

Did you have metal fillings or another compound?

A metal filling is MUCH more likely to cause sensitivity to hot and cold. With all the drilling and poking, those teeth are ultra sensitive to begin with now.

Since they are fillings and not crowns, a good de-sensitiser tooth paste will probably help but takes quite some time to produce noticeable results. There are some other sensitive tooth remedies that work much quicker and can last up to 30 days.

There could be other things going on, such as a more damaged root than the dentist anticipated. If the pain and sensitivity gets worse, you could have an abscess or possible infection working in the root canal.

I would try the faster acting sensitive tooth treatment. If it does not produce the desired result and the pain gets worse, I'm thinking a road trip may be in your near future.

You probably need to have the fillings adjusted. They are probably too high. When you bite slowly together does the side you had the fillings done on touch first? I'd make a trip to the dentist and have them adjusted, it won't take long but it will be worth it. If you continue to bang on the high fillings you will irritate the nerves further causing the need for root canals.
