Do you have to have root canal to get crown for a broken front tooth ?
Is a root canal always necessary when you break a tooth off and need a crown ?

No, it is not always necessary at the time but there is a pretty good chance that you will need one in the future. How much of the tooth is broken? Is it broken down to the gumline?

Some dentists recommend the root canal before the crown is placed to prevent the need of drilling through the crown to do it later. Some will do a root canal first in order to have the insurance company cover part of the crown cost. Since a crown on a front tooth would be considered cosmetic and many insurance companies don't cover cosmetic dentistry but WILL cover a crown on a tooth that has had a root canal it may save you some money in the long run.

It is probably in your best interest to have a root canal done then. If the tooth is broken to the gumline the nerve will probably have damage. Have the root canal done now before the crown and you won't have to worry about them drilling through the crown at a later date. They may even have to replace the crown after the root canal.
