Discolored Tooth in 3 yr old

My son's front tooth is discolored due to a fall back in Dec. 2006. He has a scheduled dentist appointment approaching. Will the dentist suggest to have the tooth extracted? Is the tooth dying from possible "nerve damage"? I would love to keep all of his teeth until it is REALLY time for them to come out.
