Dentist Killed My Tooth!!!!

I recently went to my dentist to have a chipped veneer on my front tooth fixed for my wedding. It was just a minor chip that I had lived with for a few years but wanted fixed for the big day. After he removed the old veneer and replaced it, I was in terrible pain!!! I notified him that I was experiencing alot of tooth pain and numbness to my upper lip since the proccedure. He concluded that he may have damaged the nerve with the novicaine injection and that I may or may not regain feeling in my upper lip. He basically sent me on my way (without bothering to take an xray) and told me to wait 6 months to see if the feeling comes back. After a couple of months I called and told him that I was still numb from the proccedure and that I wanted to do something about it. He brought me in, took an xray, and saw the tooth now has an abscess. Apparently, he grinded the tooth down too much, hit the nerve, and KILLED MY TOOTH!!! Now I have to get a root canal, post, and crown on a tooth that was perfectly healthy before he butchered me. Can I sue him???
