I was just getting to know this guy when he told me that he has a girlfriend and after he told me this, I backed off but he kept calling me and stuff. I asked one of his friends if he really had a girlfriend and the friend told me no. Do you think he told me he had a gf, so as to play hard to get? I want to know why he lied to me about having a girlfriend.

uh first off how old is he? and if he told you he has a gf normally that would mean hes not interested in you and doesnt want to hurt your feelings. then you say he still calls. then he's prob trying to cheat on her with you. But then again you said the friend said he doesn't maybe he does and the friend doesn't know it. so lil more info darling...

He lied because guys lie. Remember that. The ultimate "why" is usually meaningless, since lying to you shouldn't be OK, right?

You don't need the drama. Enjoy the hunt with the next guy. Hopefully he'll be a better guy, a better liar (not so easily caught), or simply honest about everything so you don't have to do research on your own.
