Date for semi-formal

I am going to semi formal this year again. Last time I went with a couple of my friends and had a blast. I just bougth this really beautiful dress, but this year I want to go to semi with a date. It doesn't have to be with any strings attached! I don't want to ask the guy, I am kinda old fashioned ans WAY to shy to ever do something like that. My one frends said she over heard this one guy who wanted to go with me. How do I let guys know that I am available and looking for a date to have a good time with. How do I flaunt what I got! hehe. I am pretty attractive, what sparks a boys attention, and how would I bring up that I need a date for semi in a normal conversation! ahhh! I am so excited, but also confused

please help me!
