on our first date we kissed. Now for my question is it appropriate to try and hold his hand at the place we are going to on our 2nd date?

I would wait for him to hold your hand first. Some guys think you read too much into kissing if you hold their hand too soon. (Even though that sounds a bit backwards)

Go with the flow - let him initiate the touching, holding hands etc. Just let it happen, don't think about it too much :-)
