Are you smarter than a politician?

The New York Times > Log In

Quote:

The evidence, however, is hard to square with the theory. A recent study by Christina D. Romer and David H. Romer, then economists at the University of California, Berkeley, finds that a dollar of tax cuts raises the G.D.P. by about $3. According to the Romers, the multiplier for tax cuts is more than twice what Professor Ramey finds for spending increases.

There seems to be two camps:

The Obama [ and one can rightly say the Bush admin ] camp that thinks the best use of money is to take it, I mean, tax people and "spread" it around as determined by the politicians.

for example:

Big Dig's red ink engulfs state - The Boston Globe

or Medicare part D

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

The other camp believes that workers should keep as much of the money they earn and let the individual determine how their money is spent, without effecting other people.

Hey, was not the Boston tea party just about this issue?

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

For those who are in the Obama camp, can you give me examples of how the government spent your tax dollars better than you did?

If you don't pay taxes or have not paid taxes - your answer is null and void.

The Federal government was commissioned to run 3 things. Money, military, and mail.
We can't be certain about military, but even if we approve of how its run, the other 2 are examples of incompetence. (The Postal Service has had to privatisze parts of its operation to stay in competition).
And the money? Of course you know about the failure of govt to run THAT properly.
Let's don't stop there; look what government control has done to public education; the U.S. is practically a third world nation.

Gateway Pundit: CBO Predicts Recession Will End in 2009 Without Stimulus

Washington Times - CBO: Obama stimulus harmful over long haul

Proof that government is not the answer.

So why are the Obama and the Dems doing this?

Stupidity or intentionally harming the country ?

Hello in:

We've NEVER been here before. Having NEVER been here before, NOBODY knows what to do. The opinion of the Washington Times, or the Congressional Budget Office isn't proof of anything.

Because YOU believe them, YOU might think it's proof. It isn't.

I could point to other publications who think Obama is doing the right thing. Given that I believe those publications, I suppose I could say THAT'S proof, and the Republicans are stupid, and that they're intentionally trying to hurt the economy....

I could say that, but I wouldn't. As wrong as I think Republicans are, I don't think they're traitors. I'd NEVER accuse them of purposefully harming the country.

Like I've said to speech lately, this post is more evidence of the divide that separates us.

The great depression - 25% unemployment

Jimmy Carter
Quote:
Jimmy Carter vs. Inflation - TIME

Inflation and interest rates, both topping 18%, are so far beyond anything that Americans have experienced in peacetime

The Experiment

Quote:

President Jimmy Carter inherited a growing economy but one with relatively high inflation and high unemployment. He left office with the economy in a recession, high unemployment, and a record high inflation and interest rates (the prime rate at one point had reached 21 percent). Mr. Carter's policies were to maintain the very high marginal income tax rates in effect at that time, coupled with a small expansion in the relative size of government.
........

President Obama had promised to restrain spending growth but increase taxes on upper income groups. Yet, the just passed"stimulus" bill represents the biggest single growth in government spending since the Great Depression. If he raises taxes, including just letting the George W. Bush tax rate cuts expire at the end of 2010, his actual economic policies will be like those of the first President Bush, but on steroids. (Note: Presidents Herbert Hoover and Franklin D. Roosevelt both greatly increased taxes and government spending; and as the result, the 1930s was the only decade in American history without economic growth.]

The great depression - 25% unemployment
Hello again, in:

We didn't START the great depression with 25% unemployment, and we're only just STARTING what we're going through.

Do I think unemployment will get higher than the great depression? I do. I think nations will collapse due to whatever is coming. I think wars will start because of what's coming. I think famines will happen because of what's coming. I think millions and millions of people will die because of what's coming.

No, I don't think we've EVER been here before.

So you DO believe the Bible!
You just described the Great Tribulation almost exactly as the Book of Revelation does.
