Hello tom:

Is it any surprise that the bought and paid for team won?? What's surprising, is that they had to work for it.

I thought that MLB had provisions that prevented somebody from stacking their team. Guess not. Why are steroids a big deal, and this isn't?

Course, I don't expect YOU to give me a good answer. You're a New Yorker.

Show some consistency . Here you have an employer who instead of being greedy ,spends his money and gives the top pay scale to his employees.
You should be rooting for a business owner like that . You should demand that your pathetic Mariner's owners ;who also have the financial means , field a quality team, to compete with the Yanks .

The Yankee can spend $400,000,000 on three players(CC, Burnett, Texiera) no other team in baseball can do that. As long as this is allowed to happen in baseball there will never be a level playing field. Why do you think most baseball fans hate the Yankees? It's not because they win championships it is because they can buy anyone they want and no other team can compete with that. The Rays were a fluke last year if they weren't they would have been in the post season this year. Besides Rays fans only show up to games during the playoffs.

Regardless if they play the Phillies or the Indians I always get a smile on my face when the Evil Empire gets beat. And so do most baseball fans.

how did the Phillies afford to get Cliff Lee ? The fact is that the Phillies have the 8th highest payroll in the MLB and the Mariners the 7th .Let's stop the cry of poverty please !

The Yanks also pay a fortune to owners in the league with the Luxury Tax imposed by the league. This goes directly into the pockets of the owners of teams like the Pirates who regularly pocket the difference and have a fire sale of their best players.

Who then is serving the game better ?

Hello spit:

In fact, it's the YANKEES who are responsible for my lifelong stance of always rooting for the underdog... My earliest memories are of wanting the Brooklyn Dodgers beat the dreaded Yankees.

Ask yourself why Ibanez played for the Phillies this year instead of the Mariners and then direct your anger where it belongs.

The Steinbrenners are a rabid fans Christmas wish . Truth be told ;ya'll wish they were to owners of the teams you root for.

Hello again,

Tis true... We HAD Ibanez.. We HAD Steve Huchenson... We HAD A-Rod. We HAD Griffey. We HAD Moyer. We HAD the Sonics...

We got a nice view, though.

No doubt about that . One of these days I'll go back to Washington for an extended vacation instead of a stop over on my way to Alaska. I want to hike in Mount Rainier National Park .

Oh, boo friggin' hoo. So the Yankees have a higher payroll than anyone else? How do you think they got it?

They got it by winning World Series long before Steinbrener came along to increase their payroll. They got it by becoming the winingest team in baseball, resulting in selling more tickets than anyone else.

Steinbrener bought the team in 1973. By that time, they had already won 20 of their 27 World series. They had already won more than twice the number of World Series championships that the second winningest team in baseball has won TODAY. (That would be the Cardinals with 10 World Series championships).

They didn't have Steinbrener's billions to back them up when they won 4 in a row from 1936 to 1939 under Joe McCarthy. They didn't have the most massive payroll in baseball when they won 5 in a row from 1949-1953 under Casey Stengel.

And keep in mind that in the 36 years that Steinbrener has been the owner, they have only won 7 times. Apparently, Steinbrener's billions can't buy the World Series every year.

Face it, the argument that the Yankees bought the series with their bigger payroll funded by Steinbrener's personal fortune is full of cr#p. If it wasn't, the Yankees would win every year, but they don't. And the payroll really comes from sale of tickets and merchandise, which is a product of winning World Series games, not the other way around.

So boo friggin' hoo. For all of you who are angry about the Yanks being able to pay more for their players, I'm rubbing my forefinger and thumb together for you... playing the world's smallest violin.

Get over it.

Elliot

Ex I am still so mad that the Sonics are now the OKC Thunder!!!!!!!!

I hate to admit it Tom but you are right I wish we could spend that much. But for the good of the game they need to have a salary cap.

It is not about buying championships it is about giving each team a chance to compete for free agents. There is no competition if the Pirates and Yankees are both interested in a free agent there is no way the Pirates are getting him.
