Us Alaskans, Alaska Wild

Well, I have to say us Alaskans have been waiting for something like this. My husband is very happy and I already went and got all the hats and t-shirts......Do you think they are going to make it, or swallow it all?

Ah, yes, the Salty Dawg! Been tossed outa there a few! Ha!
Grew up in Homer since the sixth grade, but lived in Juneau and Adak before that. My bro still lives in Homer, tho the rest of us drifted around a little.

I did a GoogleEarth peek and it's all different now. Time changes everything.

Not only time, but people change it too...Next time I go back, that is a drive I would like to take...I think I spelled it wrong....is it the Salty Dawg or Dog...i know it doesn't really matter but I was thinking about that last night...
I went to Juneau for a bowling tourny in the 8th grade...came out in 1st place....scored 272!! not bad not bad, OH, but i took the kids bowling 3 weeks ago and I hit 76 and my 4 year old hit a 92....I think that was the score...LOL
So Captain, I am wondering what you did in Adak...I knew a few people from there. They were my wonderful friends next door always telling us about their native traditions....Whale Blubber....first and last time I will EVER try that again...(I get the whole idea just not the taste) Anyway, Have a great day.
GO HAWKS1

Ya, it's Dawg. No biggie.
What I did in Adak: turned four. My dad was in the Coast Guard, that's how we got to, and moved around in Ak. I do miss it, though.
I've been up and down the AlCan a few times. Once when I was a kid growing up in Washington state, we had a huge camper and drove that up, through Circle and everything! Awesome! But when I was in the Air Force, I got transfered from Travis, in Ca, to Galena Air Base, on the Yukon River (Central Ak) I drove my Toyota Celica from Sacremento all the way to Homer...ALONE! When I left Sac-to, I had a dozen or so 8-tracks (I'm dating myself now!!) By the time I got to Homer they, one by one, all flew out the window! Go figure! I'd do it again, but I'd take my XM with me!

What is an XM?
Wow, you were there, that is wonderful all the experiences and excitement of driving that long all alone.
My husband and I left in our motorhome with three kids, we drove and drove....we even had the turtle with us (I was afraid they would make us leave the turtle at customes) That was the best experience witht he kids I have ever had, and my husband. We had so many things go wrong and right that nothing will ever compare. And the people along the way. So cool. I am 33 now and I will never regret leaving. I have a sister and two brothers still in Anchorage, I miss them and my friends dearly....BUT, I love Oregon. The kids love it too. I have it in my mind you throwing 8 tracks out the window. Too funny. Hugs to you....Start

XM is digital satellite radio. It's awesome! Hundreds of channels from all venues. Rock, comedy, jazz, news, sports, you name it. And the best partis it's mostly commercial free (the catch is you pay a fee, rather than the advertisers paying the fee...)

That drive, no matter how many times you do it, is a life's worth of experiences! You'll learn alot from the people and cultures you encounter, and possibly find out things about yourself you never knew.

Remember the sign post at Watson Lake?

I've got pics on my PC, but if you have Webshots...great source!
Or GoogleImages, look for Watson Lake Sign Post, sometimes called sign post forest. It's just signs and stuff from everywhere! People from different places have, over the millennium have put stuff up there. I've got two there. One is hand made from when I was in sixth grade, and more recently my front license plate from Guam (long story)
