Understanding the event as presented to us, the attacked girl's parents recourse is to sue for damages to their daughter's health, temporary partial or permanent damages (hearing), and press assault charges. The lawsuit should include aiding and abetting with everyone named that was present. Ironically since it's became national public knowledge the video thus demonstrates two things: (1) the event itself and (2) posting of the video (myspace) as malicious intent; any half-witted prosecution team has an easy case. I saw a living room full of makeshift weapons at the attacked girl's disposal. In other words, the girl that took the beating, no matter of size and being outnumbered, should had defended herself and then still pressed charges. |

| From the video available it seems the victim was submissive and just trying to defend herself, hands upover her face, fetal position. she was not trying to go after her attackers.
I shudder to think that if the victim went for a kitchen knife or table lamp, how the 8 attackers would have escalated their violence. |

| this is something those of us who grew up without computers have to be thankful for!
Parents have got to start limiting what their child does on the computer and teach their child wrong from right!
All you parents out there who have kids you raise so well, good for you! Be damn proud!
The parents who have kids that do these things, you never should have produced a child! |

She didn't go after her assailants. BTW in that situation you don't defend yourself by putting your hands over your facing crawling up into the fetal position. She opened up herself to blindly providing more easy targets. Defending yourself is when you block or detour the shots coming at you. Quote: |
Originally Posted by inthebox I shudder to think that if the victim went for a kitchen knife or table lamp, how the 8 attackers would have escalated their violence. | It's called the flight or fight reflex. You probably would had been like the victim that wanted to leave out the door and take the flight route, but that didn't work out so well. The attackers, all eight of them, were cowards. Sorry to be graphic, but stab the bully leader in the chest or cut an arm, then hold up the knife and ask "who's next?!" You don't even need a knife, a coke can, or glass from a photo frame will do. The rest of the chickens would have been obliged to open the door. Again sorry to be graphic here, because I'm very much an advocate of avoiding violence if given the opportunity to escape.
Since listening to Nancy Grace I found out more details. This was a premeditated act. There will be assault and battery, as well as kidnapping charges. The hoodlums beat the victim unconscious. Apparently in addition to hearing loss there is some eye damage as well. |

| I think if your trained to defend yourself and this was a one on one or even one on 2 or 3, that person might be capable of taking the fight to their attackers. BUt even Mohammed Ali rope a doped - got him Parkinson's though.
However, it was one on eight. If the girl in question grabs a weapon, the majority of the others will grab their own weapons, and the potential for coma or manslaughter is much higher.
By their actions
- this was over trash talking over the internet
- premeditated
- 8 on 1
- videptaped so they can further humiliate the victim - none to smart either
I don't doubt that any one of the eight would use whatever weapon was available.
I have to give the victim's parents credit though for being so composed on camera. |

| I didn't watch the video (don't care to see it either, I get the point); what are the chances this was all a set-up and the girl consented to such abuse to make it onto youtube? It wouldn't be the first time... |

BUt even Mohammed Ali rope a doped - got him Parkinson's though. | Ali's rope-a-dope was used in a sanctioned boxing match and he fought back and won. That's not a very good comparison. Ali, before the disease, would had beat the eight of them silly in less than five minutes, then taken off his belt and gave them humiliating spanking across their bare shinnies, autographed a toches cheek, then dropped them of at city hall tied up for the mayor to discover the next morning.
I suggest, parents, to enroll your young ones into discipline martial art classes, preferably Wing Chun as a starter for your daughters. Kali's a great martial that starts of with knife offence/defense and how to use makeshift weapons. If nothing else at least go down to your local bookstore and get a book on Krav Maga, an Israeli combat system used by the IDF. These arts teach life skills for survival, respect for others, and self-esteem. Quote: |

| Get used to being outnumbered. You think on the streets that your going to be given time to go back home, gather the neighbors, and even up the score?! Doesn't work that way. Just ask that little girl that was beat beyond recognition. I know most of the public will never experience any situation similar to what this little girl encountered, and that's a good thing. But if she grabs a a sharp object, slashes or gouges a hole in the bully leader, one coward will be to busy dialing 911, two cowards will $#!t their panties, and the four other cowards will fly out the door sobbing uncontrollably. I thought you realized they are cowards?! You're giving them way to much credit. I know what my families been exercised to do. It's obvious that you or you're children are more likely to be passive. That's OK as long as your given the opportunity to walk away. Quote: |

The victim's parents have a lot of emotional trials still to work through and I feel really horrible for them. My guess is that their local news stations will probably set-up mail for well wishers.
As for the other parents of these punks (punkettes)... they are from middle class neighborhoods? Probably tied into the business community, but obviously forgot about family responsibilities. They raised heathens and now have to deal with the embarrassing consequence. Child custody services need to look into their families and see what else lacks attention. |

Must be the skeptic coming out in me... and a bit of the pessimist too! |
