    Let's talk about race
    Hello:

What strikes me odd, is white men declaring black, half black, and latina women to be racists. They don't bestow that title on someone because he or she has LIVED a life of racism. Nahhhh. They do it because they found something they said, and pounced... They pinch their brows, and make their pronouncemnts as though they're warning the world about some bad that is about to befall them if this racism is allowed to continue... They think they've uncovered something and it's their job to reveal it.

It's clear to me, that if any of these white men had actually experienced racism, they wouldn't be making these pronouncements so easily... I'm talking about the kind of racism that has one race OWNING another... I'm talking about lynching... I'm talking about the most disgusting things one race can DO to another...

But, I'm not here to enlighten 'em OR argue with 'em. I wouldn't win anyhow. Nope. I'm here to WARN 'em... White people will BE a minority in THIS country in 2042. If they don't start getting with the program, they might very well find themselves at the end of a firehose being attacked by dogs... They might find lines in the bus telling 'em to ride in the back.. They might find themselves hanging from a tree, and nobody caring much...

Soooo, for self preservation, I'd get on board... Oh, I know they won't CHANGE their racist ways. But, for the good of their family, I'd suggest that they, at least, shut up. You know who you are.

PS> Would it bother me to see the likes of Glen Beck or the Limp one being forced to drink from "whites only" drinking fountains?? Not really.

So, does this mean you wish to keep the hatespeak going?

I grew up in deepest darkest Klan country and have detested judging a person by the melanin content of their skin since I could make a decision by myself. I detest David Duke, Professor Gates, Al Sharpton, and the rednecks I deal with on a daily basis equally because they are all so proud of their ignorance.

BTW, I prefer the back of the bus.

    Hello Cat:

If, by responding to what was said, you want to say that I'M keeping the hatespeak going, I'm not going to split hairs with you. I don't know who said what hateful thing first. But, I'm going to CONTINUE to respond in the manner I have...

However, lest you miss the tenor of my post, let me be clear. I don't support reverse racism. I misspoke above. It WOULD bother me to see the Beckster being forced to do ugly stuff because of his race.

Reverse, obverse, inverse, obtuse: I am actively opposed to the tone of one's skin determining even how much sunscreen to use (an extreme and sarcastic example) and I will continue to dismiss anyone who uses such criteria for any reason whatsoever, be that college admission, arrest reports, or to call someone "stupid."

I did not mean you personally, I just "hate" haters. (Is one who hates a hater?)

    Hmmm, this oughta get interesting...

I think the word 'racism' gets thrown around a little too easily these days. Racism involves POWER. Prejudice merely involves stupidity. The two are potentially inclusive - Racists people are prejudiced but not all prejudiced people are racist.

Do I think there are prejudiced people out there that aren't racist? Yes. Just because they feel the way they do. It's racism when they attempt to do something about the way they're feeling.

The word gets thrown around by people that don't truly understand its meaning. If they did, they wouldn't be so blase' about using it.

A couple days ago I made a comment to a member that a statement s/he made was 'racially innappropriate' and the response I got was, "I'm not racist!"... Never said that. The comment didn't affect me specifically but could've been potentially hurtful/misunderstood by the OP. Do I think this poster was racist? No. Do I think this poster is dumb? Absofreakinlutely. But this person has no power. Zilch. Nada. Just some nimrod sitting behind a computer screen typing words they don't know.

What bemuses me is some people so afraid that there will be a mythical shift in power where they will be on the receiving end, that they seem to have gone into overdrive with their hatred.

    Hi, NM

Congrats on the expert status. I hadn't said that before. On the skin tone thing, I agree it's about power quite often, ignorance when it's not, and the thing that grabbed me about the whole issue at a young age is the injustice of it. I define stupidity as the refusal to think and this is probably the first example I ever saw of people being stupid about something.

If racism is about power, as Nikosmom so astutely points out, then how can the POTUS, arguably the most powerful person on the planet, admit that they don't know all the facts, but then denigrate a police person for doing their job?

BTW did you know Crowley's partner is black?

If racism is about power, what did Sotomayor do to change the life of Mr Ricci?

It is unreasonable to think that only white men can be racists. To think that Blacks, or Hispanics, or Asians, or any other "minority" Can't be racist is not logical. Are not racial gangs not being racists by excluding other races or by specifically targeting their own or other races?
To think that one entire demographic [ white men ] is racist is also beyond reason. How about those white men that marched with MLK in the 60s?

    [btw, I'm not a white male ]

You make it sound as if we must experience that same racism to be able to know racism when we see it. Or is it that, since whites haven't been victims of those "most disgusting things" we're not allowed to talk about it? Or is it just that since some minority somewhere, some time has been the victim their racism is excused? I'm really confused here, ex, because that line "if any of these white men had actually experienced racism, they wouldn't be..." has a lot of connotations, insinuations and justifications I really don't like.

But, I'm not here to enlighten 'em OR argue with 'em. I wouldn't win anyhow. Nope. I'm here to WARN 'em... White people will BE a minority in THIS country in 2042. Oh, now we're being threatened that if we don't become happy little compliant white guys we just might be dragged from the back of a Cadillac or something? Yeah, you've done wonders for race relations in this post, ex.

Oh, I know they won't CHANGE their racist ways. But, for the good of their family, I'd suggest that they, at least, shut up. You know who you are.
Actually I don't know who they are and I for one am not intimidated by this over the top bullsh*t.

My only comment to this post is that the career of Al Campanis was destroyed over an ignorant comment about the abilities of blacks to perform as managers of baseball teams.

So for that inadvertent slip of the tongue ,a lifetime's work was destroyed .A body of work that ironically included helping shape Jackie Robinson's career, expanding scouting in Latin America, scouting and signing so many African American players.

He was not President of the United States ;he was not being considered for a life time position on the highest court in the land.

His was a single comment ;not a comment oft repeated like Sotomayor's comment about the wise latina being a better judge than a white man... or a pattern of racists comments from the President .

I can list other whites who's body of work were destroyed by single comments ;but you get the point. What you think you see is us clinging to some past... a past we never experienced .Maybe some of our dads and granddads did ;but my experiences have been after the days of Jim Crow ,lynchings and black only water fountains . What I see is a clear double standard where there is no tollerance to racial comments by whites ;but allowance given to minorities.

Whites already live in a world where we have to walk on egg shells afraid to offend and limited to some PC speech someone else defines . I would at least expect that minorities being considered for some of the most powerful positions in the country would be held to an equal standard.

So a couple of weeks ago a black man gets arrested after provoking the Cambridge Police and failing to obey a lawful order and the left gets incensed over his arrest. The president fans the flames without knowing the facts by saying the cops acted "stupidly."

This week the strategy for the left is to massively organize to heed the White House call to "punch back twice as hard" against "organized," swastika bearing thugs, brown shirted and otherwise “well-dressed” "political terrorists" - also known as American taxpayers - protesting Obamacare.

Yesterday, several people beat a black conservative man at a forum in St Louis yesterday, 2 of them allegedly SEIU thugs.

Kenneth Gladney, 38, a conservative activist from St. Louis, said he was attacked by some of those arrested as he handed out yellow flags with "Don't tread on me" printed on them. He spoke to the Post-Dispatch from the emergency room at St. John's Mercy Medical Center, where he said he was awaiting treatment for injuries to his knee, back, elbow, shoulder and face. Gladney, who is black, said one of his attackers, also a black man, used a racial slur against him before the attack.
Where's the outrage? When will Obama denounce this racist assault on a black man?
