Are there any statute of limitations for sexual assault in canada?

Did you report the sexual assault after it happened ? No statute of limitations on sexual assault. How could there be. The sexual assault is still going on from what you describe.
If you know, for a fact, that the same person who assaulted you is still assaulting minors, then it is your legal duty to report him.

This happened when you were l3, how old are you now?

Regardless, if there is or is not ( yes there will be, but not sure of the time frame)

But you have the right to report it, and get it out in the open, your report could help perhaps in conviction of a current report if nothing else.

Also you may have rights to sue them for damages if there has been emotional issues.

There is a form of statute of limitations in Canada regarding this type of crime, and I guess you know this too, but it all depends on when the sexual assault took place, how many years, etc., the trail goes cold and there is just no way to assemble any kind of evidence.

That is why I asked OP if this happened when she was l3, how old is she now.

Thank you for the reply. I am 51 years old. I am only asking because I have run into other ladies who were sexually abused and assaulted when they were younger and to see what is out there for women that were told to sweep it under the carpet and not talk about it. The other incident happened when I was 31-32.

You stated in your original post that you were l3, so that sent up red flags for me. But now you say you were 31.

Yes, we all know that this happens, but the point is, it has to be reported immediately when it happens, otherwise, authorities can't do anything about it. And don't say it is swept under the carpet. Our RCMP are just as good as any other international group in tracking sexual offenders. Your local police can be quite helpful, although I do admit that they sometimes fall short of the maximum idea about women being abused bcause they take the stance that it can be consensual or non-consensual and then there is a fine line between the two parties that participated in the sexual activity.

I don't like it that you misrepresented your entire post. I know what you were trying to accomplish, but it can't be accomplished here. What you can do is speaking out in your community about this person you mentioned who is still abusing. Otherwise, I don't know what to say to you.

Tickle may or may not be an expert, but he/she is not a great listener. The abuse victim reported two events, or series of events. One happened when she was 12. This is not a misrepresentation. One happened when she was 31 or 32 in B.C.
For so many reasons, she needs to connect with police, support groups, and counselors who will not minimize her concerns. If one person cannot hear her clearly, she needs to try again, and keep trying until people answer her questions, not the questions they want to hear.

As a matter of fact, I am not an expert in this field, I am an expert in others, mainly healthcare, which sometimes takes me to women in the same situation. I don't like your tone. That is really innapropriate here. And, as a matter of fact I am a good listener. I answered in accordance with how the OP stated her case and if she didn't have a problem with my answer, and I am quite sure she would have said, then why should you?

If torah wants to come back and discuss this again, although I don't see a lot of responses to her problem. She is quite welcome, but I stand by what I originally said, which is speaking out in her community about this person who committed this terrible crime and went unpunished. If I could reach through the screen and do something to help I would.
