Recruit Sustainment Program For the National Guard
I have not been enlisted for very long in the Ohio Army National Guard and am in Recruit Sustainment Program. I need to get out of going my girlfriend has became pregnet and I don't want to leave her so she has a better chance of finishing High School if I am around. I've heard that since I haven't taken my Bouns and have not been threw Basic Training I am really in no obligation to the guard. But I have been to MEPS and taken my Oath.

I believe you are right... I remember when I went through basic and a lot of other people just dropped out, I don't know what the ramifications were though. Some of them just failed out on purpose, which I believe gave them an other than honorable discharge. If you just don't show up you can end up with a dishonorable discharge, and pretty mush ruin your reputation for any other good jobs.

I must say that you staying back for your GF will not help her as much as you going into the national guard will. By the time you get done with basic and AIT she will most likely still be pregnant and you can return in time to be with her.

The benefits of the military are pretty good, especially being so young as you are. They will give you the support for your child, such as medical care and extra money to support the child.

I am not totally sure about the National Guard though, I am talking about Active Army (I did 5 1/2 years). You can speak to your recruiter and he/she will be able to guide you better on what your choices are. Of course they are not going to like you pulling out of the contract... but if you really think you can support your girlfriend and child, then I guess you just need to do what is right for you.

I do believe if you back out you can never try to get back in.. but that may not be true nowadays with the need for soldiers... just something to think about if you ever want to go back.

I would say that often doing things for the right reasons sometimes do not work, If you want to get out because you don't want to do that, and want to go to college to get a better job latter, Or you want to go to tech school and learn a skill.

But she will have the baby if you are in basic or not in basic and if you are doing something to make a better future for you and her long term that is what is important. IF she would leave school if you were not there, she has much more serious issues since she needs to know the importance of school.

I will assume both of your ages are very young, so I would speak to your parents about good choices in life and get their opinoins. And the girls parents hopefully would be there to keep her in school

Im not saying that she does not know the importance of school. I am saying that it will be hard for her to keep up with studies and take care of a child by her self. Yes she has the support from her family but her mother and father have to work, as do my parents. It would make the entire thing better if I could just stay around here. I could get training as a Ohio Peace Officer and have a job with a sheriffs department by the time that baby is due. I would have trouble starting because the time I get a job and when the baby is due is very close. But as far as money goes, we have the support to help us threw it until I get making money good in the job from both of our families.

If you need to wait for a while then talk to whoever is in charge of the Recruit Sustainment Program that you are in. You may be able to renegotiate 'Reno' your ship date. Your recruiter will be of no help, they lose the accession if you don't ship. If you just want out completely, tell them that. If they will not give you a discherge, don't show up on your ship date. They cannot make you go. You will get discharged eventually. I was a Guard recruiter, believe me, not going is the best thing you can do. Go to Army National Guard. Good Luck
