Theft employer in Canada
i recently got charged with stealing 5 ipod nano's(each aprrox.worth $224 no tax included) from my employer Walmart Canada. my friend was arrested 2 days before me because the cops claim they have us on camera stealing. He was sent home after interrogation and received two court dates one for fingerprint and one to appear in front of court. I received the exact same charges and sentences. We both admitted to stealing 5 ipods each because of the they claim they have camera footage. I don't have a criminal record and this is my first offense however i am 19 years old. My question is what will be my charge i saw a couple of options and jail was one of them so can some one please help me and clarify about the possible jail sentence?

Nahh. Even in the United States, where we have the death penalty for shoplifting nano's, you wouldn't get jail time for stealing only 5. Up in the northland, they'll give you a break. Being cold is sentence enough.

When I was reading what you had typed and I heard they had lied, you didn’t mention your parents were there.

So I was about to say, the cops screwed up.

Then I read you were 19!

For some reason I thought you were a kid.

Therefore, you are an adult.

Get a lawyer, but the odds that you will get jail time for stealing 5 ipods on your first offence is highly unlikely.


And I agree with excon.

NEVER confess just like that to the cops.

They very well could have been lying about having you on video tape. And guess what, they are allowed to do that!

Just to support what my colleagues said, what probably happened is they got your friend on tape and he ratted you out.

If you search here under Theft under $5000 you will find similar threads. Canada has a provision for first offenders where you can do community service. I would get a lawyer and have him look into that.
