How much jail time for an escape charge while on parole?
My fiancˇ was arrested last night by local police on what they called an escape charge. He was on parole from a 2009 domestic assault charge (which was listed as a misdemeanor). He never left the state or tried to flee but I do believe that he didn't inform them when he moved in with me a few months ago. I'm pretty sure he had been close to completing his parole but for whatever reason he stopped meeting with his P.O. And or didn't meet all of his requirements. I'm not sure but I think he is also going to be charged with a violation of parole. He was arrested Friday night and does not have a court date until Monday. The bail bondsman I called to help get him released told me that his right to obtain bail had been revoked. I'm very confused about all this, will he have additional charges brought on him, what exactly does the escape part mean? What should I expect when I go to court for him on Monday? Will they make him serve more time?

And I do believe, an am pretty sure, you neglected to tell us what state this is in. Naturally, it makes a difference, as the laws in each of the several states are different.

It doesn't sound like escape to me. Perhaps the law wherever you live is unusual, or more likely the officers were confused about what they were charging him with. In general, if he violated the conditions of parole he could be required to serve the balance of his sentence.

I would believe unless he was on a ankle monitor at his old location, what they are calling "escape" is moving without notification, so they had no idea where he was at.

In fact he will have 3 or 4 violations from what it sounds.
    Failure to notify of move.
    Non reporting
Not completing the program or programs

And yes with violation of parole there will be no bail.
He will most likely go back into prison to serve the rest of his parole time.

Unless he is a sex offender, where he has to register his address, I don't see additional charges from what little you have given us.

He was not on an ankle monitor and he's not a sex offender. We live in Vermont, just outside of Burlington. He was very close to completing his parole conditions... can they really jail him for failure to report? There are so many offenders out there that are a real threat but they are going to holdu fiancƩ over this? I don't get it!

Don't get it ? Yes they will always lock him back up for failure to report, that is serious and treated as such.

He had rules and refused to follow them.
