How to get off probation early or terminated
Is there any way you can have your probation terminated after you have met all your fines and community service.

You will have to ask the probation officer, who can make a reomendation to the judge.

It will really vary from office to office, and state to state. In some areas, that are over booked and the crime was a minor non violent one, it is very possible. But then some probation people don't believe in it and want you to do all the time. But it never hurts to ask and talk to them about it

You can ask for early termination, but it's at the court's discretion. They usually want to know WHY you want it terminated early. For example, a misdemeanor can often be expunged after probation terminates, so for example a person can ask for early termination so they can begin expungment proceedings for employment purposes. You should call the Public Defender's office in your area and ask for their assistance.

    Hello 1:

Here's what I'd do. Ask your PO for the written policy that declares you eligible. Write a letter to the court citing the criteria for early release, and that you meet it. Ask the judge to accept your letter as a motion for early release. Send it certified, return receipt requested. Send a copy to the prosecutor's office, and a copy to your PO.

That should get you a hearing.

My husband wants off probation so that we could move to another state. He only has 5 more months of probation. Does anybody think that they will transfer his probation , or release him?

What are the chances of someone getting off probation? Does It ever really happen? If so how?

    Hello D:

They'll transfer him. I don't know if they'd release him. If he did 36 months on probation and only has 5 months left, they probably WOULD let him go early. But, if he only did 3 months of probation and has 5 months left, they probably WON'T let him go early.

I you want to transfer, go read this.

    Hello w:

There isn't any set procedure, and every state is different. The person to ask is your PO, or whoever told you what you reported.

    Hello b:

They're not going to let you off. Truly, in the scope of things, you're a SHORT TIMER. You started SHORT. There's NO upside for them letting you off, and only downsides. You can certainly write a letter.. The judge is the only guy who can release you. Send your letter certified, and send copies to your PO.

In the meantime, you CAN get travel permits to do business out of state.
