felon looking for work

My husband was convicted of a felony when he was 17, and charged as an adult. He has been working in areas that do not do background checks, and all of these areas have been hard labor (welding, etc..) He now has back problems, and is unable to do the hard labor anymore. We are looking into having his record expunged, but I do not think it is possible. Do most companies do background checks? I just don't know what to tell him to do. He is under the impression that nobody will hire him.

Hello Miranda:

Felons have to work harder to get jobs. But, they CAN get them.
