DMV powers?

I am currently in a position, which I would honestly describe as somewhere between a rock and hard place.

I lost my state ID, and my driver's license is currently suspended. I've searched high and low, and am certain that I need to go to the DMV to get a new copy of my ID before I go to court tomorrow.

Here is where it gets sticky, though. My court date was actually a couple of weeks ago, but I accidently missed it and tomorrow is "open court." I called and talked to the court people, and they said that a bench warrant has been issued for me, but that it will be taken care of if I come in for court tomorrow.

I know that I need to have an ID to get into the courthouse, so I want to run to the DMV, like right now. But I'm scared that they'll pull up my information, see a bench warrant and take me to jail!

What do I do? Go to the DMV? Are their workers peace officers or do they even have access to my warrant information? Or should I wait until tomorrow and hope that the officers at the courthouse will understand my ID-less predicament?!?

Someone please guide me!!

You will not be arrested at the DMV.. They shouldn't have access to your warrants. Also, you are not going to get a driver's license, it's for an ID. When you go to court they should drop the bench warrant. If you do not go, they will put you in jail when you do show up or if they catch you.

Last time I went to court, they asked to see my ID when I checked in. It was probably about a year ago, but I figured it was just procedure.

Whatever you were going to use to prove you are you at the DMV is acceptable to prove you are you in court.

Incidentially, my son had a probation violation warrant and when he went to get his driver's license renewed (Georgia) , it showed up on the computer (and it was a different county than the one he lives in). The sheriff's deputies were waiting as he left with his new ID.
