what is needed to charge some one with back check writing

I am wondering what kind of proof is necessary in order for some to attempt to press charges against some one else with bad check writing? and what is the charge a felony or a misdemeanor?

Hello jane:

If they wrote YOU the check and it bounced, then you have the check. Take it to the police.

If they wrote it to someone else, then THEY'RE gonna have to make a complaint. YOU can't do anything. Oh, I suppose if you just wanna call the cops on him, you can. But, that's not very nice.

excon gave you the right answer. The difference between misdemeanor and felony various from state to state. In some states any cold check over 100 dollars is a felony. In others 300 is a felony. The charge is called theft by deception.
