24 Answers Does anyone know what David Rothenberg is doing now? He was a 6 year old boy who was set on fire by his father in 1983 after him and his mother were divorced. He survived but suffered third-degree burns to 90 percent of his body. His father Charles was sentenced to 13 years, but was released after serving only about 6 1/2 years. His mother Marie wrote a book about it in 1984 and a tv movie was made in 1988 starring Bernadette Peters and Dan Lauria from Wonder Years. Both were good but very disturbing. I heard he was finally sentenced to 25 years two years ago thanks to California's 3 strikes law for unrelated weapons and other charges. He should have gotten life for something so horrible, especially since he had been a career criminal since the 50s. David now calls himself Dave and has appeared on Bold and the Beautiful in 1997 and on a talk show about 3 or 4 years ago. I heard he even met his father in jail around 1996, hard to believe. I heard some sketchy reports that him and his mother are no longer on speaking terms which is sad considering all that she has done for him. If anyone has any updates on his life and family situation, I would like to know. What a brave guy, I salute him. |

| David's mother, Marie A., married my cousin **** Hafdahl, who was the detective that escorted Charles Rothenberg back to Anaheim, CA to stand trail. **** built a skateboard ramp in the backyard of their Buena Park home for David to use during his long recovery and he became a proficient skateboarder. We know that David moved in Hollywood celebrity circles in later years and had been befriended by Michael Jackson. **** Hafdahl passed away several years ago and our family has repeatedly tried to find Marie. The last known address was in Richfield, UT, but she has not responded to our attempts to contact her. Any new information would be greatly appreciated. | ||||

| I agree. I went to Jr. High and High school with him for a while. He changed schools in high school. I would love to find him again. Years ago when we were kids my mom would take his mom and him to church with us. We used to hang our back then too. I am glad he is doing good. | ||||
