74 yr old mother on SS

Can someone please give me some information? My mother is 74 years old, and lives only on social security. She has a credit card debt, hasn't been able to pay on it for almost a year and a half. She tried sending them 150.00/monthly, but was told that wasn't enough, so she quit paying. She doesn't own her home, and only owns what is in her home (clothes, appliances, furniture, etc) Some crazy collection agency has now bought her "debt" and is starting the threatening process. She has her social security check direct deposited. Can they freeze her checking account and take all of her personal belongings? They have used a really big "scare tactic" on her, and I just want to make sure they can't do anything what her "burial money" (that's what she calls it, and it is less than 7,000.00) in her checking account. That is all of the money that she has to live on is her social security, and she spends nothing except rent and utilities and very little food so that she can pay for her burial. She doesn't want my brother or I to have the debt of paying to bury her even though we have told her not to worry about it. I'm concerned for her state of mind. Thank you for any help that you can give me.[COLOR="Purple"]
