| Credit card debt after death My Dad received a credit card through a credit union. He somehow (I don't know the answer to this yet) got Mom a card with her name on it. Dad passed away and Mom didn't notify credit union re his death, because she wished to keep the card. What I'm trying to figure out is should she have notified them of his death and then the debt would have gone away? (She is making minimal payments monthly and getting no where on pay down.) I just can't discern if she is jointly on the account. I guess that is what I first need to determine from everything I've read. If the bill comes in both of their names, should I assume it is a joint account and she is responsible for the balance? Thank you. |
