Sales Tax Owed

I had a small incorporated business that did not do well. I managed to sell it but the meager money received just barely paid off some creditors and left no money to pay the sales tax owed am I personally responsible for the sales tax owed? Thanks for the help

Hello appleseed:

You're not responsible for it in the sense you're talking about. You ARE responsible to pay it, because you collected it, and didn't forward it to the city or the county.... It isn't, nor was it ever, your money.

If you DON'T pay, they could charge you with a crime.
