subcontractor libility

I am a subcontractor for a city facilty maintennece and work under a main contractor .
During my work at a vault at this facility a car has hit the vault hatch door and has minorly damaged the door and his bumper ( total damageabout $1000)
My question is what is my liability if I have not put caution cones around the open hatch door. Am I liable or the main contractor.

Hello zav:

Well, I don't know the law as well as you do. If you were required to put those cones out, and you didn't, then yes, you could be liable.

However, given that the damage was only $1K, and you'd like to work again for this contractor, I'd eat it.
