Cleaning all kitchen surfaces regularly is always a good thing, walls too. I use Spearmint or peppermint oil with sweet orange oil in a diffuser. It will even nix cigarette odor.

Curry is a problem....it not only gets into the curtains but the pores of the walls and cabinets soaks in the curry odor. I have had luck with an ozone generator (you can find some cheap on ebay). If you don't want to go that route, try watching this tip video....Kitchen Smells - How to Get Rid of Cooking Odors Video - About.com
