simple and not too expensive canapés ideas?

Hello,

I am cooking a small and simple meal for my parents and sister. Instead of doing a starter I thought I could maybe do canapes.
Do you have any suggestions, I would just like to do simple canapés that won't be expensive to make.

Thank you,

Jack

p.s my mum has coeliac disease (can't eat wheat/gluten), so I can get gluten free crackers but pastry is difficult to get for small tarts etc

Free Recipes - Smoked salmon canapes recipe - seafood - other seafood | cuisine.com.au

You could take this basic instruction on how to make canapes and revise it... use salami and cream cheese rather than smoked salmon if you choose. Or, look at Kroger, every once in a while they have specials on their fresh seafood.

Or, how about this...thepassionatecook: Cannelini bean, salmon & caviar canapés

Most canape recipes are made the same way... purchase a baguette, top with some type of cream cheesy stuff, and add smoked salmon or meat or something.

Be creative! And let me know what you decide to do!

(Throw some fresh chives on there... perfect! )

Thank you so, so much HistorianChick. I really like the sound of the Cannelini bean, salmon & caviar canapés and so I will most likely make them and then I will probably just do a simple canape recipe like you mentioned of bread, cream cheese and salami or smoked Salmon. Thank you so much for the wonderful ideas and I will tell you how the canapes went at the weekend (I am cooking on saturday night).

Thank you again,

Jack
