Drink a glass of milk afterward. Water will actually make the burning worse.

Eagle Renter agrees: It's true, milk does lessen the effects of pepper oil and does an effective job at talking the strong flavors out of your mouth too.

Milk works wonders and I'd like to add to that response by also stating that it's the oils within the peppers which are causing the heat in your mouth. Liquids, such as water, will only spread the oils around your mouth in a more thourough fashion making it worse. Try drinking milk and eating bread, crackers, pastry...anything that will absorb the oil in your mouth. This will drastically reduce the effect of the heat.

On a side note, you should also try this method if you are performing a side by side taste test with very similar foods or drink such as wine. With the bread or crackers that is...not the milk.
