Rafter square

I want to build an addition on my home and don't know how to use a rafter square to cut the rafters. This is a project I really want to do on my own but lack the expertise in figuring the cuts on a rafter. If someone has a simple but accurate way of using the square, I'd REALLY appreciate hearing from them!

Re: Rafter square

the best way to figure out would be going to the library and check out a book .the way i lay out rafters is if it is a 4 and 12 pitch i lay out one rafter with the framing square like you would lay out stairs 4" on the blade and 12" on the tounge . understand that the rise will be 4" per foot . hope this helped a little ;D
