| Looking for a step by step LIST of start to finish home building If you are going to build your own home (by yourself, with few, if any subcontractors) in an in-town location (all public utilities) does anybody have an idea where to get--or can you send me?--a comprehensive 'To Do' list that will give my husband a good idea of what he is in for? Most important, the steps that will say what comes first, the chicken or the egg--in other words, if you are thinking the first step is the foundation--what are you forgetting as far as who needs to know (permits) what needs to be laid out to understand where foundation goes, and are you considering where utilities enter yet? Do you need construction electricty installed before that? And ALSO: can ANYBODY actually lay out a comprehensive list of what collection of tools and equipment you might be in need of throughout the entire process--so he can see what he needs to buy/rent long before he gets started and consider THIS in the cost, too?
I KNOW! This sounds like we're stupid/naive. But, really, I'd just like to hear an honest reply (even private message) from an actual contractor who can tell us. As we may or may NOT go this route, if my husband TRULY understands what he is undertaking to save some $$ (It is ICF home, by the way.) (I am an organization person and we both do, actually, have LOTS of experience in home renovating--OLD home flips) but not in an entire build process from the bare ground up. It is a modest 1500 sq ft home, very open plan. Very small town, rural. |
