    Insulation R factor's
    What R value of a building is considered Poor,Average and Excellent? My house is 21 years old and is a manufactured home. The insulation ratings are R11 in exterior walls and ceiling, R19 in crawlspace. Is that considered Poor?

    Basically my question is what would be considered average insulation for a home?

    R values vary depending on where you live. Per DOE recommendation, In GA R -15 is minimum wall, floor over unheated area is R -25 and attic is R -49. In Hawaii it would be different as would Alaska. If you Google " R value by Zip code " you can get a lot of calculators. Based on what you are showing, you are well below minimum, at least for GA. Walls are hard to retro insulation but crawl spaces and attics are fairly easy either by batt or blow in (attic) .

    Installing extra insulation is effective only if you have the space for it without compressing it. It needs the air in it to preform correctly.

    If using batt insulation, it should not have a vapor barrier on it.
