graphics problems

Okay, my computer started freezing so I installed a new nvidia driver like it told me too and it doesn't freeze any more but the performance of the nvidia card is terrible. Any game I load is really choppy, I previously had a Windows Experience Index bas score of 3.5, the graphics and gaming graphics categories had a 3.5. Now after I installed the updated driver the Windows when i ran the Windows Experience Index base score of 2.0, the graphics and gaming graphics categories both are 2.0. Please how can i fix this? It is as if it is running at like 1-2 frames per second. i tried rolling back the driver to the original driver and the games ran fine but my computer started freezing again, so I had to update it again. PLEASE HELP I HAVE TRIED EVERYTHING

i have a HP m0904n PC w/ Intel Viiv, quad-core, 3GB DDRII Ram, nVidia GeForce 8400GS Video Card

I couldn't find a reference to that particular HP model number. In any case...

Did you download NVidia ForceWare Release 169, version 169.25 directly from NVidia's website, or from HP's site? Try the other one. Also check the games' readme for any known issues with your graphics adapter.
