You need to make sure all your codecs are updated.

A couple of nice software packages to use instead of Windows media player, is Media Player Classic or Video Lan (VLC) media player which has built-in codecs.

Then you need a codecs pack such as ffdshow, which has compatible codecs for xvid, divx, mp4, etc.

Okay, stupid question. How do I update all my codecs? I downloaded a documentary that has the video but no audio. Exact opposite of Anderson's situation.

See my first post above. Ffdshow can be downloaded as a .exe file. Just run it and codecs will be installed.

I am very confused and every link WMP has doesn't solve my problem. I want to arrange my music library in order of either artist A-Z, or song title A-Z. How can I do this, and if you can, give me step by step info? I've tried what I could and so far nothing. I really appreciate your help.
