Windows fails to load

I recently downloaded an anti virus program that failed to instal properly so I un installed it. Since then every time I click the mouse I get a windows installer pop up telling me it is trying to install the previously uninstalled prog. I have downloaded the program again this time successfully, with the view of uninstalling the whole prog again. I now have the problem that windows won't start and all I get is a pop up telling me it is preparing to install. I am also unable to start in safe mode to rectify this problem. Any help on this matter would be very gratefully received by a confused silver surfer.
Frank

It sounds like windows is starting and then restarting if you getting a pop-up. When you start your pc, when you press F8. Select the option "last known good configuration (your most recent settings that worked) see if this works. You tried safe mode. If you cant start windows and do a system restore. Boot from the windows disk and select the repair option.

If all else fails you can create another partition and reinstall windows and then you can access all the old files.

Always back-up important files and documents just case. Then worse case scenario you could just reformat and start over. I reformat my hard drive like every two years..

Hope this helped.

download this and install
http://download.microsoft.com/downlo...bd/msicuu2.exe

it is an app from MS, once installed, run the app and it will give you a list of apps that have installers still recognized by the system, go down athe list and find the problem program and hightlight it and click remove - This should fix your problem

Actually, my fault I apologize I give you brief instructions When I should of gave you details.

When you start up your pc (power it on) the computer will display a message hit this key to setup..Sometime is F2 it varies from system to system. After you hit this key you should be at the CMOS screen this allow you to change what order you computer boots. Normally, floppy and then C. Change this setting so the first drive it reads from is the CD/DVD ROM drive. If the windows cd is not in the drive do this now. Then save the changes. The computer will restart and then a message will read press any key to boot for CD..press any key. The follow my instruction on the above post.

Thanks for the reply Marriedguy, tried what you said and changed the boot to Cd, but when it starts I get the choice of changing the boot selection 1. HHD or 2. CD but using the up and down arrows does not change the selection. Also when I press F8 key it takes me to the safe mode screen but wont allow be to change from normal start to any of the other choices.

have you tried Using System Restoire to go back to before you installed the AV? Or using CCleaners to clean out the orphaned Registry entries.

Iinstalling Windows in a different partition and reformatting are last resort options is all else fails.

ScootGem you are correct by I dont think he can even get to window interface. I was thinking that he could repair with the windows disk..he cant get into safe mode.

The key to switch the order varies. Read the screen it should tell you which key changes the option. Some systems dont allow you boot to the same boot device. Example: HD as the first one, HD as the second. So change the second one to floopy so Cd option can be available for the first boot device.
