Will This Site Get Transferred To My New Computer?

When I have my new Mac Mini, will this site with all of my questions and answers get erased or will they go to my new computer, is there anything that I must do? THANKS

HI, If your other PC was a MAC, I guess it would work on the same principle as Windows, you should have a Favorites folder near your Documents and Settings directory. Just highlight all of those favorites and *zip them together and copy them to a disk, CD or memory stick. Then in your mini Mac find the favorites folder and unzip the files in there. That should do it. Sorry but I'm not familiar with MACs, but someone should come along soon. Good Luck.

You can logon to this site from any internet connected computer, as long as you know your username & password, the posts you make here are kept on the website, not your computer. You won't be initially recognised but after you first login & remember password you'll be fine

Hi Violet,
ANY Web site is stored on a WEB server not on your local PC. All your questions and answers are stored on the server, so they will still be here. Any other sites you might frequent will also still be there with any info stored.

The one exception to this is cookies. Cookies are small text files that some sites store on your PC to customize the site when you return to it. Some things that may be stored on your local system are user IDs and passwords. So I would make sure that you know all the IDs and passwords for all the sites you have to log into. If you have setup automatic login and have forgotten the password, then you can go to your profile for the site and change your password. How you do that dpeends on the site. For this site just click the MY Profile link near the top of the page.

Chery agrees: cookies vs.favorites, forgot about that, thanks.

OH NOOOOOOOOOOOOO - This is overwhelming for me!!

Thanks Chery, but No Thanks!! I am too overwhelmed too understand this article which you sent, and to attempt to understand what you sent, (which I do appreciate though), would make me go and buy anti-anxiety medication on the black market!!!!
At the moment I am in very very difficult times, as my 15 yr old son has suddenly been diagnosed with Diabetes 1 - and so I have been in the hospital every day since Sept. 27th! Thank goodness he is pulling through, but it is a very big life change, as he is very ill.
Anyways, thanks for the lesson, but I am not there yet. Hopefully one day I will be able to understand articles like the one you sent!

I am very disappointed to hear about your son. Diabetes is a nasty disease. Listen to the doctors, and make them explain things so you understand them. He will be making some big changes in his life. It is very important to carefully follow the doctors instructions to avoid some of the complications of it.

Pay attention to Scott's answers. You may want to post under Apples and Macintosh. That way you may get fewer confusing instructions on how to do things under Windows. I hate to say this, but many of the people posting here are Windows oriented. You might do better to find a site with more Mac oriented people. What I know about Mac is so old, likely it is useless to you. It will be a difficult readjustment, but I think in the end, you will be better off with the Mac.

Hi Labman: Thanks for the kind words regarding Jordan. It really is so very very hard - he is changing like Dr. Jekyl and Mr. Hyde-his moods are so negative, so angry, irritable, anxious, nasty, verbally abusive, etc...he has changed like day and night.....I am trying to not crack up! You know, when my life seems very overwhelming I chant to myself "IT COULD BE WORSE. IT COULD BE WORSE!" - those words get me by. I think of all of the homeless people of lately.....all of the hurricanes, and the earthquakes, all the pets that are all of a sudden abandoned and lost....I can cry so easily about all of this, so what I have on my plate, Jordan now having Diabetes 1,and I am also ill .....yes it is very very difficult, but .....it could be worse!

re: your words above, I do not understand and would appreciate some clarification PLEASE???!!....You said: "You might do better to find a site with more Mac oriented people." .....I NEED TO UNDERSTAND ARE YOU SAYING THAT I WILL NEED TO LEAVE THIS SITE AND FIND ANOTHER SITE?? WHY?
Do you mean that when I get the Apple, I will not be able to continue on here on this site??!! I hope that I am misunderstanding you as I am now so upset by this news.....tell me I do not understand....please!!? ALSO:"Pay attention to Scott's answers. You may want to post under Apples and Macintosh. That way you may get fewer confusing instructions on how to do things under Windows." SORRY - WHAT DO YOU MEAN PLEASE????!!!

Hi Violet,
Labman isn't saying you need to leave this site, but he is correct that you might want to look for a more MAC oriented site for your questions about the MAC. There is only one Apple forum on this site (I see you found it) and it has very low activity. At lot of the question have no answers at all. The fact is that MACs make up a very small portion (less than 10%) of the PCs out there.

WEB sites are universal, they will look just about the same on a MAC as on Windows. So you will have no problem getting to and using this or any site.

While there are similarities between Windows PCs and MACs there are also a lot of differences. If you ask a question and don't specify its for a MAC, you will probably get instructions that may confuse you. That's what Labman was advising.
