Are there alerts

My mom is hard of hearing, so she needs to be alerted when her computer makes a sound is there something that she can do?

When the computer makes what kind of sound? Most programs will pop to the top of your windows stack if they need your attention.

nctays disagrees: What can I do to the computer to make it alert her?
J_9 agrees: N00B balancer
PolluxCastor agrees: nctays, your disagreeing instead of responding, will make no one want to answer your questions.

The answer to that question depends on the Windows version and the specific application in question. XP and Vista have Accessibility options in the Accessories on the start button.

Some programs can flash their task on the task bar.

Reply back with some more specifics.

turn the volume up - right click on little speaker next to the time and you should be able to turn the volume up there
